About
Next door to Monticello, Highland was James Monroe's working farm from 1799 to 1823 — where a 2016 archaeological discovery revealed the true footprint of his lost main house. Owned by William & Mary, the site pairs guided tours and a 300-year-old witness oak with exhibits shaped by descendants of Highland's enslaved community.
